We hear four applicants requested an information packet for taking over the operations of the Village’s A and C public docks. According to Village Administrator Anne Auger, one bid was submitted. Village Council will have to review the bid and either approve it or not accept it.

On average, February is the driest month of the year at Put-in-Bay with about 2.2”. of precipitation. The average amount of annual precipitation for the islands is 38.5”.

Jake Market will continue to serve as President Pro-Temp of the PIB Village Council for 2025.

Wyatt Auger, PIBHS Class of 2013, who works for the Secret Service, was part of the group protecting President Biden when he vacationed on St. Croix in the Virgin Islands this past Christmas/New Year week.

The Village has hired Greg Auger to review how businesses use their parking lots. Many businesses use their parking lots for rental golf carts rather than parking for their customers as required by zoning regulations.

Congrats go to Gabriela Kaplan from the Airline Dr. who was recently was reelected (three years in a row) to be on the North East Ohio Sierra Club Executive Committee for the Sierra Club. She is in charge of the Health and population chapter.

Stone Laboratory’s science education doesn’t stop when the Lake Erie island campus closes for the winter. field trips during the off-season in the fall and winter. Sue Bixler, education and outreach assistant for Stone Lab, visits classrooms around the region in the winter months to teach kids about Lake Erie ecosystems and wildlife — including snakes.

PIB Police Chief James Kimble attended Anti-Terrorism training in Columbus in January.

Put-in-Bay has about 70 deer according to some reports, Kelleys Island reportedly has multiple herds, some estimates are as high as 400.

Kelleys Island made number five for the fastest growing Ohio home values in 2024. Most of the other top ten are eastern suburbs of Cleveland in Geauga County. Put-in-Bay was number 25. Put-in-Bay was 23rd on the list of most expensive ZIP Codes swith a 5-year appreciation rate of 49.7%. Last year’s appreciation was only 4.7%.

Island entertainer Mike “Mad Dog” Adams recently had the pleasure of working on the recently released film, Lost and Found in Cleveland, with his daughter and twice Emmy-nominated Production Designer, Kristen Adams. Jon Lovitz plays the mayor of Cleveland, and Mike plays a member of a bowling team.

Ninety years ago this month, the rectory at St. Michael’s Church on Kelleys Island was claimed by fire. Insurance paid $3,500, but that only covered about 1/3rd the costs.

On February 10th, 1935, island ice fishermen on Kelleys Island requested through Congress that the Coast Guard supply a crew and boat to be stationed on the island after a car with three ice fisherman fell through in 40’ of water.
