senior citizens day

As a postlude to Key West Days, this day honors and celebrates our older visitors who enjoy coming to Put-in-Bay island year after year. Many are snow birds and they enjoy the warm temperate Lake Erie summers before going down to Florida to get some more sun while the island gets all icy.

This is a great day to visit the Bay and enjoy all the sights and sounds and maybe even discover a new favorite spot! National Senior Citizens Day is an observance and not a public holiday in the US. Discover great Put-in-Bay shopping and wonderful attractions to take your breath away!

This observance was established in honor of senior citizens in the US who made positive contributions in their communities. The day was also created to bring awareness of social, health, and economic issues that affect senior citizens. Enjoy a quaint quiet stay in downtown Put-in-Bay at the Victory Station Hotel, a boutique Put-in-Bay lodging.

Ronald Reagan on Senior Citizens Day

“Throughout our history, older people have achieved much for our families, our communities, and our country. That remains true today, and gives us ample reason this year to reserve a special day in honor of the senior citizens who mean so much to our land,” Reagan proclaimed. “For all they have achieved throughout life and for all they continue to accomplish, we owe older citizens our thanks and a heartfelt salute. We can best demonstrate our gratitude and esteem by making sure that our communities are good places in which to mature and grow older – places in which older people can participate to the fullest and can find the encouragement, acceptance, assistance, and services they need to continue to lead lives of independence and dignity.”
